It is not exactly news that R&B hasn’t been as heartfelt as it used to be back in the ’90s and noughties. But with her authentically subversive debut album “Over It,” Summer Walker might just be the one to take this genre back to its touchingly honest roots.

When the Atlanta-bred R&B breakout star released her debut mixtape last year, the stunning track “Girls Need Love” was an instant hit with its emotionally raw lyrics and sultry sounds. Even Drake had to lend a guest verse to the remix.

At only 23 years old, Summer Walker is showing a lot of promise as an R&B musician, and she has officially dropped “Over It,” a debut project that is star-studded and packed with one bop after another.

Leading up to the release of “Over It,” our new R&B favorite revealed two singles: the Destiny’s Child-sampling “Playing Games” which is topped up with a Bryson Tiller appearance for the extended album version; and the sexual “Stretch You Out” with A Boogie Wit da Hoodie. Both bops are equally brilliant and widely loved, but will Summer Walker live up to the hype?

Of course she didn’t disappoint with her new lengthy track list, in which she delivers a diverse range of emotions when it comes to love, lust, and loss. Each of her track captures a different feeling, be it seductive or sensual.

Get ready for passionate late night feels in “Anna Mae,” “Just Might” featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR, and “I’ll Kill You” featuring Jhené Aiko. The album also offers some alternatives to balance out the Summer Walker styled slow jam majority – “Like It” with 6LACK and “Come Thru” with Usher. And of course, “Fun Girl” which inspired Drake himself to write two songs at 7:30 in the morning.

There’s something for everyone on “Over It.” Don’t believe us? Get the album here. If you’re as in love as we are – check out Summer Walker‘s tour dates here.
