The Breakdown: Mariah the Scientist's sister, Morgan Buckles, serves as her manager, friend, and confidant. Morgan has been helping the singer navigate the music industry since Mariah entered the business.
Before reaching R&B fame, Mariah the Scientist was studying biology in college. She planned to work in a lab before realizing her true calling was behind a mic, not a microscope. In 2018, she independently released her first project, To Die For, which caught the attention of Tory Lanez. He later signed her to his label under RCA.
Mariah’s 2019 debut album MASTER set the tone. Tracks like “Beetlejuice” and “Reminders” had girls crying in the club and texting exes they shouldn't be texting. Follow-up projects like RY RY WORLD and To Be Eaten Alive further solidified her reputation as a melodic storyteller with a dark, poetic edge.
Though Mariah keeps her personal life private, she has opened up about her family’s unwavering support. Raised in a tight-knit household in Atlanta, her parents nurtured both her intellect and ambition. While she’s the only one in the family to take the music route, her sister plays a key role in her career behind the scenes.
Mariah’s sister, Morgan, is her manager and biggest supporter.
Morgan and Mariah share a bond that's both personal and professional. Morgan plays a pivotal role in Mariah's career, handling touring and artist management responsibilities. As Mariah's manager, Morgan plays a crucial role in orchestrating her sister's career.
Her Instagram bio proudly states her role as "Touring Artist [Management for] @mariahthescientist." Their close relationship is evident in their social media presence. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Morgan shared a photo of the duo with the caption, "The big head girls.”
Mariah The Scientist's mom and dad are black.
Mariah has always been open about her family and background – despite receiving questions about her race from fans. “There's like this running joke that there's a lot of women that look like me,” the singer said (per Welcome to the Culture). “They always say, ‘She looks like that because she's biracial, she's mixed. Obviously, she has a white parent, or a white and black parent.’ But it's like, I actually don't. I have two black parents.”
She went on to describe her mother as “fair-skinned." “My mother is a fair-skinned black woman,” Mariah said. “When she was growing up you know they made her feel really bad about that like really bad about being the only fair skinned woman.”
Meanwhile, Mariah’s relationship with Young Thug seems stronger than ever. The pair linked up in 2021, and since then, Mariah’s been holding it down through thick and thin.
When Thugger got caught up in that RICO case and was locked up for over two years, Mariah didn’t flinch. Even when drama hit—like that leaked jail call with another woman—Mariah stayed solid. Thug publicly apologized, tweeting, “Sorry to my baby for all this bulls**t on the internet. Love u baby and f**k em all we know what’s up with us.”
