The “Fly Above” songstress started her trek to international stardom through the best-selling girl group Xscape, an Atlanta-based R&B quartet formed in 1990 alongside Tameka “Tiny” Cottle (Harris) and sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott. With the group, Kandi obtained legendary success after the ladies inked a deal with super-producer Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label.

In 1993, their chart-topping debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha, spawned the hit singles “Just Kickin’ It" and “Understanding” and went certified platinum. Xscape’s second and third projects, Off the Hook (1995) and Traces of My Lipstick (1998), achieved the same status. Reportedly, as of 2023, they’ve sold around 10 million records in the United States.

Xscape is also known for their songs “Love on My Mind” (1994), “Who Can I Run To” (1995), “Do You Want To” (1996), and “My Little Secret” (1998). Celebrated for her high-pitched whistle and unique vocal talent, Kandi became a key asset to the collective’s one-of-a-kind sound.

While Xscape solidified her stance at the pinnacle of the industry, Kandi made a name for herself outside of the bop-making bunch. From serving as a songwriter for some of today’s A-list artists to starting a plethora of brands, the Grammy-winning businesswoman’s self-made stature goes beyond the music.

In that same era, she joined the second season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, a reality series highlighting the personal and professional lives of affluent women. The multi-talented queen is responsible for rewriting ex-Housewife Kim Zolciak’s “Tardy for the Party.” Almost instantly, Kandi grew into a fan favorite, having flaunted 14 seasons under her belt before announcing her exit in 2024.

Kandi began dating TV producer Todd Tucker in 2011. The two met while filming Season 4 of RHOA. One year after their 2013 engagement, Kandi and Todd jumped the broom on April 4, 2014. They share two children: a son, Ace (born in 2016), and a daughter, Blaze (born via surrogacy in 2019.)
