Toni Braxton and Birdman have kept fans guessing for years, and their latest twist has everyone wondering if — and when — the pair got married. After being friends for more than 15 years, Toni and Birdman took their relationship to the next level in May 2016. They made their red carpet debut as a couple in June of that year, surprising many fans.

Now, fans are wondering about their marriage, which made headlines months after the couple officially tied the knot.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the R&B legend and the Cash Money mogul secretly tied the knot on August 8, 2024. But just two days later, Braxton filed for divorce, citing the marriage as "irretrievably broken." Despite the quick split, the story didn't end there. In January 2025, Braxton dismissed the divorce petition, with Birdman agreeing, leaving them still legally married. However, neither has been seen wearing wedding rings.

Their relationship has been a rollercoaster since they started dating in 2016. They got engaged in 2018, called it off in 2019, and have had multiple reconciliations and breakups since. In December 2023, Braxton even denied marriage rumors, stating on Instagram, "My dear friend @birdman and I are not married ... never been married. We are both single.”

As of now, the couple remains legally married, but their true relationship status is anyone's guess.

Toni previously opened up about their relationship, gushing over Birdman in an interview with People. “I’ve always had issues dating because I was ashamed to have lupus and felt like no one would want to take care of a woman with lupus – I was insecure,” she said. “With him, I can be comfortable with a little hat or skully on with some lipstick and mascara, but I can just let my hair down a little bit and that feels great.”

Before Toni’s relationship with Birdman, the R&B queen was married to musician Keri Lewis. Their love story began in the late 90s when Lewis's band, Mint Condition, opened for Braxton on tour. The couple went on to welcome their first son, Denim Cole Braxton-Lewis, in December 2001. Two years later, their second son, Diezel Ky Braxton-Lewis, was born in March 2003. Diezel's autism diagnosis inspired Braxton to advocate for autism awareness, serving as a spokesperson for Autism Speaks.

Despite their shared love and family, Toni and Keri’s marriage faced challenges. They separated in 2009 and finalized their divorce in July 2013. “I felt shallow because we broke up for money issues,” Toni said during an appearance on Red Table Talk (per TV One). “I found out I had Lupus at the time. I couldn’t make money because I had lupus ... that was my personal contribution to the marriage failing.”
