Last month in Cooks County, Illinois, a 62 year old man verbally attacked a young woman for wearing a shirt with the Puerto Rican flag on it.
The victim recorded the whole incident, and the video has recently gone viral. In the video the man approaches the young woman, yelling at her about her shirt. The woman respectfully asks the man “Can you please get away from me?” multiple times, as he continues to get in her face. He was also slurring his words, as he was under the influence of alcohol. Besides that, the woman repeatedly tells a nearby officer that she is uncomfortable, and asks him to remove the man from the premises. Eventually, a female officer steps in to the woman’s aid, and arrests the assaulter. The man goes by the name of Timothy G. Trybus, and this was not his first time getting arrested for disorderly conduct and assault.
The man is clearly not ranting about fashion, he was uncomfortable because he is a racist, American nationalist. And he proved so with his discriminatory remarks and questions directed toward her. At one point, he asks, “Are you educated?” and later, “Are you a citizen?” Assuming she is not a citizen or lacks education because of the flag that she is representing, is completely racist and ignorant of the man. He even goes so far as to say she is “un-American” for sporting the Puerto Rican flag.
As for the first officer who ignores the woman asking for help, he did not make himself look too good either. As a result of the uproar about the video, the unhelpful officer took over desk duty. Shortly after, he resigned altogether from his position, which is for the best for the public.
You can hear the full extent of Trybus’ ignorance in the video below:
