Where’d You Find Your Sugar Daddy?

As more dating apps continue to popularize themselves among millennials, match.com and eharmony are being replaced by dating services that suggest more than dinner and a movie. Dating sites for sugar daddy/mama have become more appealing to millennials seeking nontraditional relationships – and a little extra cash.
Sugar daddies are infamous for trading money for sex and dates from their sugar babies. However, there are many “SD-SB” relationships that don’t involve any sexual exchange or public appearances. For some, it is simply a friendship or even a professional mentorship in exchange for some sort of financial compensation. Depending on the level of sugar daddyness, men have been known to pay for college tuition, a Birkin bag, apartment rent, and luxurious trips.
But when you see young girls walking exiting a 5-star steakhouse on the arm of a man thrice her age, it’s easy to wonder where they met and how the relationship began. SeekingArrangements.com is one of the online pioneers in the SD-SB dating world. As the website celebrates 10 years in the love business, they have reached over 10 million active members. According to a July 2016 survey, the average monthly allowance given to sugar babies on SeekingArrangements is $2,200… so it makes sense that 44% of the sugar babies on the site are college students. During the undergrad years, students are expected to either request money from family or survive on their own – but for some, relying on an established gentleman to pay the weekly Starbucks bill sounds more appealing than other options. Other sites that pair young women with older men include SugarDaddyMeet and SugarDaddie.
If online presence isn’t your forte, SD-SB relationships can spur organically and in person. If this type of relationship is being consciously sought out, it is all about location. According to SeekingArrangement.com, Nevada is the most popular state for sugar daddies, with 9.42 sugar daddies for every 1,000 men. New York comes in a close second with 8.12 per 1,000 men. But if you aren’t a Nevada or NYC resident, seek out locations where men of a certain status often gather… i.e. not Forever 21.
