October 15 marks the next round of debates for the Democratic primary and moderate candidate Tulsi Gabbard has announced she will be in attendance despite sharing her boycott consideration. She believes that the DNC and corporate media are taking advantage of constituents.

On Thursday, the presidential candidate announced on her Twitter that she was highly considering boycotting the Democratic debate. “There are so many of you who I have had the opportunity to meet in Iowa and New Hampshire who have expressed to me how frustrated you are that the DNC and the corporate media are essentially trying to usurp your role as voters in choosing who our Democratic nominee will be,” she explained in a video. “I share your concerns and I’m sure that all of our supporters throughout the country do as well.”

She goes on to explain how the 2016 Democratic primary was rigged against Bernie Sanders. Gabbard states that this rigging was at the hands of the DNC coupling with the corporate media. She continues, “in this 2020 election, the DNC and the corporate media are rigging the election again but this time it’s against the American people in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada. They are attempting to replace the roles of voters in the early states using polling and other arbitrary methods, which are not transparent or democratic.”

Gabbard continues to explain her dissatisfaction with the televised Democratic primary debates, to which she refers to as “commercialized reality television,” that are made to “entertain, rather than inform or enlighten.” Her boycotting the event is a means to call attention to this issue.

On Monday, she announced via Twitter her decision that she will be attending the debate. Prior to that announcement, however, she pointed out that The New York Times will be moderating the debate. She Tweeted, “As if to prove my point, NYT just published a ‘greatest hits’ smear piece. All your favorite hits in one article! These are the folks who will be acting as the ‘neutral’ questioners/moderators of Tuesday’s debate lol.”
