Victory Boyd, who is signed to Roc Nation, is a fusion between Soul and Folk music. Whether she is singing her original songs or throwing it back with classics, Boyd’s voice captures you with so much passion, wisdom, and soul. The Root, an online magazine, is known for providing, celebrating, and engaging view points for the black community to be involved and speak up on issues in our community. They are also known for hosting summer shows called #ThePopUP, which showcases black artists that deserve the front stage, such as Victory Boyd.
Last week I had the pleasure of hearing Boyd live during #ThePopUP for an evening of exceptional vocals and chills going through my body. Her voice has a way of capturing your attention and worrying about nothing but the lyrics and that specific moment in time. Her raspy falsettos to classics such as Stevie Wonder and Nina Simone showed so much knowledge and appreciation for old soul music that is often forgotten. Her vibes exudes so much love at such a young age, it almost reminds me of Chloe x Halle who are signed to Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment. The best part of the show was the glow she shinned while performing her own music, there was so much love and appreciating with each note she sang. Oh, and did I mention she will be on tour with Jussie Smollett and Lauren Hill this summer! Victory is shinning her light bright and making sure everyone sees her.
Victory Boyd is said to release out her new album this June 15th, so make sure to check her out. For now, you can listen to her music on all platforms; Tidal, Spotify, iTunes and Soundcloud!
