The King of Fashion Week LaQuan Smith Debuts His SS19 Collection

Bold disobedience may have been the underlying aesthetic for designer LaQuan Smith and his SS19 Collection. Vintage mug shots of women who had been arrested were formed into the print of choice and assembled into beautiful slip dresses, two-piece sets, ruched mini dresses. The Afros, Mohawks and bold lips worn by these prisoners at that time could possibly articulate LaQuan’s message tastefully and speaks an even louder message to the girls: women can suffer the worst part of an unpleasant or problematic situation and still maintain their beauty.
Ironically, Smith also recently fitted Beyoncé for her On The Run 2 Tour which ties further into his inspiration for his Spring/Summer 19 Collection.
As if his message wasn’t loud enough, LaQuan defied the standards of the fashion industry again by using a range of models with curvier assets. And who better than supermodel Winnie Harlow, who has defied all the odds, to close out his audacious show. View the collection below!
