It’s been 5 months since Selena Gomez has returned to social media, and we’re still not over it. However, this doesn’t mean she’s as happy about it as we are. Selena Gomez has always expressed her concern for the state of this generation of social media crazed individuals, so it came as no shock when she was absent for a few months. The once most followed individual on Instagram took a hiatus from social media back in September 2018;

The 26-year-old musician and actress spoke about the dangers of social media outlets, such as Instagram, at a press conference for the Cannes Festival in France this past Wednesday, ETonline reports;

“I think our world is going through a lot. I would say, for my generation, specifically, social media has really been terrible. It does scare me when you see how exposed these young boys and young girls are and they’re not really aware of the news or anything going on. I think it’s dangerous for sure. “I think it’s pretty impossible to make it safe at this point. I’m grateful I have the platform. I don’t do a lot of pointless pictures. For me, I like to be intentional with it. It just scares me. This public appearance comes a few days after Gomez‘s absence at the 2019 MET GALA. According to ET‘s source, at the time that she was simply enjoying some time out of the spotlight, as she continues to keep some space between her personal life and public presence.

“She’s happy, healthy and doing great,” the source said. “She’s happy to just be with friends. Selena loves what she does and she loves her fans, but she doesn’t like the pressure and expectations of being under a microscope.”

Hopefully, Selena finds a happy medium between her personal life and social media presence that will also influence others to be mindful of the ways social media can be dangerous,
