Come out and play U.K queens because RuPaul’s Drag Race has finally made its way across the pond! The BBC has unveiled 10 queens for the global phenomenon’s very first U.K edition and they’re all handpicked by Mamu Ru herself.
The reigning competitors includes Cheryl Hole, Divina De Campo, Gothy Kendoll, Sum Ting Wong, Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea, Crystal, Scaredy Kat, The Vivienne, and Vinegar Strokes. RuPaul told BBC, “each of the U.K queens is so unique, so courageous and so special. I can’t wait for the U.K – and the world – to fall in love with them the same way I did.”
The iconic Twiggy has been announced as one of the celebrity guest judges alongside Cheryl Cole, Chewing Gum’s Michaela Coel, Game Of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, Spice Girl’s Geri Halliwell, Alan Carr, Graham Norton, Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwell, and Andrew Garfield. There’s unfortunately no trailer yet, but the series begins some time in October, and the queens will make their first official appearance together at Manchester Pride on Saturday, August 24.
Damian Kavanagh, Controller of BBC Three said, “needless to say, we’re delighted that BBC Three will be the home of a new U.K version of Drag Race. It is one of the biggest entertainment titles in the world and anticipation levels for a U.K version have been at feverish levels. With heart, humor and the un-imitable RuPaul, Drag Race is going to take BBC Three to a whole new level.”
