The actress was born in Zaria, Nigeria, and grew up in Manchester, England. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and graduated in 2007. In July 2024, Wunmi surprised fans by announcing the birth of her daughter, a revelation she had kept private until then. The actress shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of herself with her baby girl.

“Oh, and when I said Mama, I meant it,” Wunmi captioned the post. This heartfelt announcement came just a day after she attended the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere, where she playfully hinted at her new maternal status with the caption, “Mama went OUT out!”
