Teyana Taylor’s Divorce From Iman Shumpert Explained: Timeline, Settlement, and Allegations

We love love over here, especially when Black Love is at the center. Teyana Taylor was once a prominent face of the phrase, as her and Iman Shumpert's marriage was once the definition of #couplesgoals.

Though Teyana and Iman were stars individually before getting together, they seemed unstoppable as a unit. The pair navigated career shifts, welcomed two beautiful children, and even brought their love to reality TV.

For a time, their marriage seemed to be one of the few celebrity matches that would go the distance.

Unfortunately, Teyana and Iman's love story ended when they privately settled their divorce on July 2024. Since then, the details surrounding why their marriage ended has been a hot topic. Here's what Teyana has said led to her and Iman's divorce and a look at their divorce settlement.

Teyana filed for divorce from Iman in January 2023. At the time, the couple had been married for seven years and had been together for 10 years overall. While Teyana privately filed for divorce to protect her and her family, she later confirmed their separation via Instagram.

"In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while," Teyana said on Instagram, per People. "To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our two beautiful children.”

Teyana and Iman spent another year in court settling their divorce, where more details about their marriage surfaced. In court documents obtained by TMZ, the "Gonna Love Me" singer claimed he “emotionally and mentally" abused her when they were together. She said Iman allegedly resented her for working when their daughters, Junie and Rue, were born, stating she should've stayed at home but would complain when she took him up on his offer.

Teyana also stated in court that Iman was unfaithful in their marriage, and that his arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) and weed possession, including her claims that he would smoke weed around their children, played a role in her ultimately filing for divorce for the second time. The first came in 2022, but she had her legal team cancel it soon after.

Teyana and Iman reached a settlement in their divorce after a lengthy court battle. In the settlement, Teyana was awarded a hefty payday and pretty much a guarantee that her luxurious life will continue. According to Realtor.com, she received four luxury homes worth over $10 million, several of her and Iman's cars, including a $300,000 Maybach, a $70,000 Mercedes Sprinter, and a tour bus. Additionally, her ex was ordered to pay $8,000 for their daughters' child support and tuition.

Teyana and Iman's expensive divorce settlement sent social media abuzz when commenters discovered the details. However, the model slammed her ex for allegedly putting the details of their divorce out to allegedly spite her.

In court documents obtained by People , Teyana claimed Iman and his attorney sent the divorce settlement to the press in response to her appearing with Mufasa star Aaron Pierre on the red carpet at the 2025 Oscars. She told the court "the only way" entertainment blogs would have access to the "alleged divorce settlement" would be from Iman and his team. Teyana's team also said that both she and Iman received their settlement agreement was "awarded by the Court."

Iman's attorney, Stephen C. Steele, jumped to his defense, stating The Chi alum "has never whatsoever leaked any allegations or claims stated in any of the pleadings" and didn't benefit from leaking their business to the press. Since then, Teyana has also addressed the scuttlebutt that she married Iman for the millions she ultimately received in the divorce settlement.

"Let’s get this gold-digger s--- out the way,” Teyana said in a since-deleted Instagram Live, per Essence. “Every single car that I walked away with, I literally paid for out of my pocket. I bought my tour bus with my hard-earned money. I bought my Maybach after Iman crashed my Rolls Royce and never replaced it. Let’s be very clear, I left with what I came with.”
