The Breakdown: In 2022, Wendy Williams raised concerns from fans about her health after she was placed under a guardianship and diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, according to her guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey.

Life without Wendy Williams and her purple chair has been a sad one. After a 13-year run of asking her "co-hosts" "How you doin'?" as only she could on The Wendy Williams Show, a platform that followed a 20-year career in radio, the media personality faced multiple health and personal issues that affected her career. In 2025, she began speaking out about her life's challenges. Here's a health update on the former daytime queen.

Wendy Williams reportedly relapsed and was sent to another, stricter facility — here's a health update.

Wendy's health was a hot topic across media platforms, as media outlets, podcasts, and influencers began sharing more details about her diagnosis and living arrangements. In May 2025, the ID channel debuted TRAPPED: What Is Happening to Wendy Williams? The special, hosted by investigative journalist Diane Dimond, included new claims that Wendy was sent to a facility where more people could have eyes on her.

The need to move the Daytime Emmy winner into another facility came when she reportedly violated her privileges by being inebriated on her 60th birthday when she lived on the third floor of a New York City assisted living facility.

“Wendy was on the third floor in this care unit, where she has access to the hallways, to the elevators,” Dimond explained in the special. “And on her birthday, she decided to get in the elevator and see where she could go. Well, it went all the way up to the rooftop bar, and it being her birthday, she ordered a drink, and then another one, and another. Who knows how many, but she will admit to you that she got drunk, she had a relapse.”

The documentary stated Wendy was placed on the fifth floor of the facility, where she no longer allowed to move around as freely as she once did. The restrictions meant she was more isolated than she had been on the initial floor.

“Her treatment is to be sent to a much more restrictive ward,” Dimond added. “And that was the fifth floor, the memory care unit, where she has a room with a bathroom and a television, and she is locked into that floor 24/7 unless the guardian gives her permission to go out once in a while.”

Wendy Williams admitted to the birthday incident during a rare TV appearance.

Before the news of her living situation surfaced, Wendy discussed her relapse during her impromptu press run in March 2025, which included a phone interview on The View. During the interview, she told the hosts she "celebrated" her 60th birthday, though she didn't delve into the rooftop bar allegations. Wendy also said that, while she had bouts with substance abuse, she was now enjoying a life of sobriety.

"My relationship [with substances] is fine and is wonderful," she declared. "While I was at the hospital, I also got blood drawn for my thyroid, but most importantly, at the hospital, it was my choice to get an independent evaluation on my incapacitation."

Wendy also addressed her being hospitalized at Midtown Manhattan to Mount Sinai West days before her The View interview. She told host Joy Behar that she "just needed a breath of fresh air" and needed to have some lab work done.
