After hitting screens on August 2023, season six of the hit crime drama series “The Chi” went on a mid-season break right after the airing of the eighth episode. In the episode (titled “Who Shot Ya?”) one of the main characters departs Chicago, to pursue their dreams. Things also take a dangerous turn when two characters, Rob and Emmett decide to take out Douda — each for their own reasons. However, things don't go according to plan.
Dive in to find out more about the key moments of the mid-season finale of “The Chi.”
Kevin’s Departure
Kevin Williams is one of the characters that fans have come to know and love over the entire course of “The Chi”. After graduating high school, he decides to go to L.A. to follow his dream of working in the video game industry. His departure makes for one of the most emotional moments of the entire show.
The strength and determination of the young characters in the show are embodied in Kevin’s journey – from a young child struggling with family problems to finishing high school and pursuing his dreams. Throughout the entire finale, the audience is treated to memories of Kevin and his closest friends when growing up – Jake and Papa.
Rashaad Ernesto Green captures the emotional impact of this moment in his interview with Blavity, by saying, “Losing a character from a series is often like losing a member of your own family.” However, as sad as it is to see Kevin go, Green notes that it was time as his character appears to have reached full fruition.
Papa
Turning over to one of Kevin’s closest friends, Papa is still grieving the loss of his father. However, he appears to have moved forward a bit, attempting to repair his relationship with Kenya by asking for her forgiveness for his earlier outbursts. He is still determined to follow in his father’s footsteps and shuts down any possibility of being in a romantic relationship with Kenya.
Jake and Emma
As Jake tries to find some level of independence by moving into Kevin’s soon-to-be-vacant apartment, he finds himself on a collision course with Jemma – who thought they would be moving in together, only to be disappointed. To further complicate the situation, Britney steps in and gives Jemma a chunk of cash – to help her get a place of her own.
Rob and Emmett
After growing frustrated with the situation with Douda, Emmett joins hands with Rob on a dangerous mission to kill the former mayor. The pair tries to get Victor ‘Trig’ Taylor to participate in their plot to no avail. Things get worse when Rob and Emmett fail to kill Douda – with the former ending up in the ICU after getting shot during their assassination mission. While Emmett escapes unscathed, he understands the danger that he is in, because Douda knows the part he played in the attempt on his life. After all, it was Emmett who arranged for Douda to come to the meeting.
