Although the first sequel to the original Mortal Kombat movie, Annihilation, was a colossal failure, the 2021 version was such a massive hit that the franchise is now working on releasing its sequel in 2024. While details about the returning cast and the sequel’s plot remain undisclosed, what’s confirmed is that the franchise has found its Jade in Uncharted star, Tati Gabrielle.
Tati’s casting in the upcoming MK sequel signifies the franchise’s commitment to enhancing the film’s star power.
Tati Gabrielle to Play Jade in ‘Mortal Kombat’ Sequel
The first movie adaptation of the Mortal Kombat video game series was rolled out during the pandemic. Nobody saw it coming, but it went on to become one of the most successful movie adaptations in the history of the franchise, grossing $84 million at the box office and dominating HBO Max with over three million streams. It was honored as the most-streamed HBO Max movie of 2021.

You probably know her as Marianne Bellamy, the star of the show in the third season of Netflix’s popular series You, but, the actress is no newcomer to the big screen scene. She also plays Sabrina’s antagonist, Prudence Blackwood on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, another one of Netflix’s popular hit series.
But before all these roles, Tati had already etched her name in the hall of big-screen fame through the fantastic execution of her role in The 100, a CW TV series that follows the last 100 post-apocalyptic survivors who return to earth a century after a devastating apocalypse. The actress also has her mark in the world of voice acting.From voicing Addie in the 2017 animated film The Emoji Movie and Willow Park in the 2020 TV show to playing the voice of Kai Li Cain in the 2023 Batman animated movie, the 27-year-old actress truly is multitalented.
While most details about the Mortal Kombat movie sequel are still under wraps, word on the street is that Miss Gabrielle was in talks earlier this year to play Jade, one of the most iconic characters in the MK franchise.

Jade, a green-masked heroine and lifelong friend of Princess Kitana, began as a secret, unplayable character in MK II. However, the green-outfitted heroine became so popular among fans that they made her playable in “Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.” She remains one of the most popular characters in the video game franchise to date.
The upcoming sequel will see Tati play her character alongside Karl Urban, another big big-screen name set to portray Johnny Cage.
