Skai Jackson isn’t playing around. The 23-year-old actress has taken legal action to protect herself and baby Kasai from the child’s father, Deondre Burgin. Court filings made public in mid-May 2025 show Jackson requested a domestic violence restraining order against Deondre in Los Angeles County.

TMZ first reported the news that the former Disney star secured a temporary order barring Deondre from coming near her.

Here is a look at Skai’s allegations, which come after a series of messy incidents involving her child’s father.

Skai’s petition lays out a wild pattern of abuse that she says spanned the past year. One of the most shocking incidents allegedly occurred on Mother’s Day, when Skai says Deondre attacked her while she was holding their infant son. According to her statement, he grabbed her by the hair, slammed her head into a car window, and punched her in the face. But that wasn’t an isolated incident.

Court documents describe a cycle of near-weekly violence. Skai accuses Deondre of choking and scratching her, and even breaking down a bathroom door when she tried to hide from him. She also claims he destroyed her property, including her phone and TV, and began threatening her and her family online. The threats escalated to the point where Skai says Deondre, along with some of his relatives, tried to intimidate her through social media.

A judge granted Jackson’s request for a temporary restraining order this week. The Los Angeles Times reports that the order covers Skai, her 3-month-old son Kasai and even their dog. Deondre is ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the family. Skai’s filing notes she fears Burgin’s firearms – he reportedly owns a rifle and other weapons – and asked the court to force him into a domestic-violence program.

Skai and Deondre’s relationship has been messy from the start. The actress was arrested in August 2024 at Universal Studios Hollywood on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. According to TMZ, security personnel observed Jackson allegedly pushing her boyfriend multiple times during an altercation.

Skai welcomed baby Kasai with Deondre in January 2025, The couple had kept their relationship mostly private until then. According to reports, Deondre already had legal troubles of his own. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant in April and was jailed for a parole violation when Kasai was born. None of that involves Skai’s case, but it adds context to the situation.

For Skai, the focus now is on protecting her family. With the temporary order in hand, she and her legal team have bought some breathing room while the case proceeds. A court will revisit the order on June 9. Until then Skai, Kasai and their household have legal backing to stay safe.
