Porsha Williams, star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA), was thrust into a highly publicized and challenging situation after her estranged husband, Simon Guobadia, who is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and product (not a real doctor, but does have an honorary degree) was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The detention, which took place in February 2025, ignited quite a stir and is the latest issue among William’s significant others. So, what’s the deal with Simon’s U.S. citizenship, and has the RHOA star been deported?

Guobadia has lived in the U.S. for decades. He arrived in the country in 1982 but overstayed his visa, making him eligible for deportation in 1985. Although he was deported back to Nigeria in the early 1990s, Guobadia managed to re-enter the U.S. shortly after, once again overstaying his work visa.

Over the years, he attempted to secure legal status, applying for U.S. citizenship in 2016. However, his application was denied due to his criminal record, which included arrests related to bank and credit card fraud.

Guobadia’s detention came amid the broader efforts of the Trump administration to increase deportations, especially for individuals with criminal backgrounds or immigration violations.

As part of these mass deportation initiatives, Guobadia was apprehended by ICE and is currently being held at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia. This has put immense pressure on his personal and professional life, further complicated by his ongoing legal battle with Williams.

Guobadia's legal battles extend beyond immigration issues, as he is also embroiled in a contentious legal dispute with his estranged wife, Williams. This ongoing divorce case adds another layer of complexity to his already tumultuous situation, with both parties facing heightened public scrutiny.

Williams, 43, and Guobadia, 60, had a whirlwind romance. They married in November 2022 and starred in a Bravo spinoff series together. However, their relationship quickly soured, leading Williams to file for divorce in February 2024. In response, Guobadia filed a lawsuit against Williams in November 2024, seeking $75,000 in damages.

The lawsuit claims that Williams made false and defamatory statements about him on social media, causing emotional distress and an invasion of privacy.

The couple has also been embroiled in a legal dispute over the validity of their prenuptial agreement, among other issues. Williams has seen several legal victories in the case, including the right to film at their marital home.

In a now-deleted post, Porsha Williams made a statement (per People): "It's disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome … At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family.”
