After leaving the group, she branched into acting securing a role in Star before moving on to Freeform’s Grown-ish.
The talented entertainer has also made forays into the world of film, playing the role of Claressa T-Rex Shields, in the biopic movie Flint Strong. On top of all this, the actress is also a skilled dancer.
Read on to find out how Ryan Destiny juggles everything, from dancing to singing and acting.
The Challenge
As the daughter of one of the members of the nineties R&B group Guesss, Destiny grew up in and around the music industry. For as long as she can remember, singing and performing have always been part of her existence.
Fast forward to 2015, when she broke away from her band, Destiny was excited to embark on a solo journey of independence. That’s when she joined Star. The show was a mirror of the upcoming entertainer’s life in the fact that it followed three artists looking to break into the music industry.
By allowing Destiny to act, sing, and dance in the same project day in and day out, Star propelled her to new heights – opening the door for her to become a multi-hyphenated artist.
The singer mentioned this in a Wonderland Magazine interview with Brandy, stating, “It was a blessing doing STAR because I think the way it introduced me was in a multi-type of way, where I was singing and dancing and acting.”
A Tough Balancing Act
The singer-actress quickly learned that she had to find a way to juggle all of her passions and talents as she didn’t want to surrender any of them. In the same interview, the singer stated, “I just think as humans we have so much to give, so it’s just weird to me to just do one thing,” when talking about her desire to pursue all her interests.
Her Inspiration
Destiny appreciates the challenge of balancing her acting, singing, and dancing careers. However, she is confident that she can do it all by drawing inspiration from those who came before her.
The “Do You” singer names Brandy, Queen Latifah, and Naomi Campbell – all of whom she worked with on the set of Star as her inspiration to excel at everything she does. In the interview, she stated, “Aaliyah, Diana Ross. You guys all lived careers that have allowed you to blossom in different ways and not just one.”
The singer also said that she does her best to plan out her activities and time as far as possible. This helps her carve out windows for acting and recording sessions.
Juggling different activities can be physically and mentally draining. Fortunately, Destiny is grateful to have a supportive family behind her. In the interview, she said that she always sees that support as a blessing.
