As an artist, Megan Thee Stallion has become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring legions of fans with her unapologetic and confident demeanor. But beyond her chart-topping hits, the entertainer is also making waves through her activism work—confronting systemic injustice in hip-hop and bringing awareness to issues like gun violence, the importance of education, or issues impacting Black women.

Megan Thee Stallion has also received the key to her city of Houston for the great philanthropic work that she's done in her hometown. The Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, tweeted this about Megan Thee Stallion, "Her contributions to Houston have helped a tremendous amount of people and uplifted our city when we needed it the most."

How Megan Thee Stallion Uses Her Voice to Speak Out on Issues

In the words of Malcolm X, “Black women are the most disrespected and unprotected people in America,” and not much has changed from his time until now. The plight of Black women in this country has not been easy, and Megan Thee Stallion makes it her business to speak up for herself and other Black women.

After being a victim of gun violence in 2020, Megan detailed how people questioned what role she played in the assault rather than condemning the person who assaulted her. No one was willing to protect her during or after the shooting. She told The New York Times, "And it's ridiculous that some people think the simple phrase 'Protect Black women' is controversial. We deserve to be protected as human beings."

Megan has also been very vocal about police brutality. On Saturday Night Live, she called out Kentucky's Attorney General for mishandling the Breonna Taylor case. She displayed the names of other victims on the screen during her virtual concert in 2020. She posed the question that we all want an answer to, "Why is it so hard being Black in America?"

Megan Launches The Pete & Thomas Foundation

In 2022, Megan Thee Stallion started a nonprofit organization named after her late parents called the Pete & Thomas Foundation. The foundation focuses on education, housing, health, and wellness. For education, there are scholarships, school supply giveaways, and resources for underprivileged children. The organization's housing part focuses on senior citizens, single mothers, and families that have experienced financial emergencies or natural disasters. And lastly, health and wellness include cancer care, mental health, and food insecurity.

Megan Thee Stallion has reached many heights in her career, from awards to hit records and sold-out shows, but she still remembers where she came from. While rising to the top, she completed her degree in Health Administration. She has shown young women like her that you can be free and a hot girl but still get your education. Her heart for giving back and serving her community is a testament to how she hasn't let fame change her. Megan told PEOPLE Magazine, "My family raised me to help others and give back, so I'm incredibly proud to be in a position to accomplish that goal. I have a responsibility to use my platform to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who may not have access to resources and support services."
