LAMIK Beauty is changing the game for Black people. For too long, the makeup industry was designed with the idea that the lighter the skin, the better. And for too long, BIPOC people have struggled to find good options to match their skin tones, especially trying to find clean makeup.

Founded by Kim Roxie, LAMIK Beauty not only hopes to make cosmetics for black people more accessible, but she also specializes in clean makeup. Ever since her mother passed away due to cancer, Roxie has been working to create makeup with no potential side effects. That’s why she launched LAMIK Beauty, a completely vegan line-up of cosmetics!

What is Vegan Makeup?

For the unfamiliar, the concept of vegan makeup might sound strange. Simply put, vegan makeup is makeup that is made without using any animal-derived products or animal byproducts. This includes things like gelatin and cholesterol, and also things like milk, honey, or beeswax.

It’s important to note that just because a cosmetic brand is “vegan,” doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t test on animals during production. The term you’re looking for there is “cruelty-free.”

The good news is that LAMIK Beauty is both a vegan and a cruelty-free company. Their makeup line not only uses no animal products but there is absolutely no testing done on animals throughout the entire production process!

The Benefits of Vegan Makeup

There are plenty of benefits users of vegan makeup can enjoy. The first and most obvious one is that users are making the right choice. More animals are hurt in creating cosmetics than most people realize. By choosing a certified vegan and cruelty-free brand, customers can rest assured they aren’t contributing to cruelty that is still too common today.

Aside from that, vegan makeup is also said to be healthier on the skin. The problem with animal-based products is that they often contain synthetic materials. Human skin absorbs a lot of what is put on it, and these synthetic materials can clog up pores in the long run, leading to problems later on. Kim Roxie is a strong believer that makeup shouldn’t just make you look good, it should also be good for you.

And finally, choosing vegan brands will change the industry. Too many big cosmetic brands continue to test and use animals for their products because they can get away with it. By buying vegan products, people will punch these companies where it hurts the most: their wallets. With companies like LAMIK Beauty leading the way, we’re bound to see more cosmetic brands turning vegan when their customers choose to stop hurting animals.

The Best of Both Worlds

“...when I looked into pre-existing clean beauty lines, it seemed like ‘clean’ was just another word for white; there were, more often than not, no colors that would match people with my skin tone.” LAMIK founder Kim Roxie told PopSugar. “So it became my mission to make diverse, color cosmetics in the clean beauty space.”

Thanks to LAMIK Beauty and Kim’s hard work, vegan makeup for people of color is now more accessible than ever before!
