Kerry Washington has been around Hollywood for a long time. Ever since her first appearance as Monica in the coming-of-age drama Our Song way back in 2000, Kerry has made countless appearances on television and film.
But it wasn’t until Scandal premiered in 2012 that she became a household name. The ABC political drama ran from 2012 to 2018 and revolved around Kerry’s character, Olivia Pope.
Kerry went on to star in Django Unchained and also picked up directing, and today, more than 20 years after her first major appearance, she’s still very much involved in the television and film industry.
Kerry’s Current Projects
While Scandal came to an end in 2018, she’s still very much active in acting! If you’ve been following The Simpsons, Kerry is the voice of Ms. Peyton, a fourth-grade teacher who appears in a few episodes.
Kerry also starred in the Hulu series, Unprisoned, alongside actor Delroy Lindo. On the show, Kerry portrays a therapist and single mom whose world is turned upside down after her dad gets out of prison and moves into her home.
Along with acting, Kerry launched her production company Simpson Street Productions, and is working on three scripted multi-cast Audible Original productions as well as her podcast, Street You Grew Up On.
Into the World of Directing
Kerry Washington first got directing in 2018, when she went behind the came to lead several episodes of Scandal. Since she was deeply involved with the series, it made for a perfect opportunity for her to try her skills in directing. She later went on to direct episodes of two popular series — Insecure and SMILF.
“I love directing. Especially when it’s for one of the most talented, brilliant, hardworking, and hilarious, shows in the game,” Kerry tweeted of her time on the Insecure set. “Thanks for having me @insecureHBO. And thanks for telling these stories and sharing these characters will us. I'll forever be a fangirl.”
What’s Next for Kerry? She Has a Few Films Lined Up
