Things have turned messy in Kandi Burruss’ divorce from Todd Tucker. The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum filed for divorce from Todd on Nov. 21 after 11 years of marriage. Now reports suggest he was romantically involved with other women before she pulled the plug.
What first sounded like an amicable split has quickly turned into a full-on Bravo-level breakup. Custody and a potential prenup dispute now sit at the center of the divorce.
Why did Kandi Burruss file for divorce from Todd Tucker?
According to People, a source close to Kandi says trouble in the marriage had been “brewing for a while,” but things shifted when she allegedly learned Todd had been communicating with other women without her knowledge.
“Kandi and Todd had been having marriage troubles for a while now. Kandi was not happy because she found out that Todd had been talking to other women behind her back," a source revealed. "She had no idea." The allegation comes from sources, not from Kandi directly. Todd has not publicly addressed the claim.
According to Us Weekly, the pair met while filming RHOA in 2011, when Todd worked as a line producer on the show. They got engaged in January 2013 and tied the knot in April 2014 with a “Coming to America”-themed wedding later documented in the Bravo spin-off Kandi’s Wedding. The couple shares two children, Ace, 9, and Blaze, 6. Both also had older children from previous relationships before they married. In her initial filing, Kandi asked for joint legal and physical custody and requested that the court enforce their prenuptial agreement, which they signed ahead of their 2014 wedding.
Todd Tucker may challenge their prenup.
Todd responded to Kandi’s divorce filing on Nov. 26 by asking for primary physical custody of their children, Ace and Blaze, per Us Weekly. He also requested joint legal custody and final decision-making power if the pair cannot agree on key matters. In his filing, Todd claimed the children have been living with him in Georgia while the singer works out of state. He also challenged the prenup, claiming he signed it under pressure right before the wedding and without meaningful legal counsel.
“Despite that knowledge, [Burruss’] counsel presented the final agreement to [Tucker] for signature immediately before the wedding ceremony, without any notice to or consultation with [Tucker’s team], who had been significantly engaged in the negotiation process,” Todd’s filing alleged. “These circumstances raise substantial questions concerning the enforceability of said document. Nevertheless, [Tucker] remains committed to working in good faith to resolve this matter amicably and privately to the extent possible.”
According to Us Weekly, Kandi has since amended her petition, pushing back on both the custody story and Todd’s prenup claims. Her legal team pointed out that the whole prenup journey was filmed and aired on Kandi’s Wedding. Court documents state that cameras captured Todd speaking with his lawyer and confirming that he was “good to sign.”
“The parties’ journey to executing an enforceable Prenuptial Agreement was filmed and broadcast on Bravo television network, with the knowledge and consent of both [Burruss] and [Tucker], for their five-part reality television wedding documentary entitled Kandi’s Wedding that premiered on June 1, 2014,” Kandi’s filing stated.
