The Breakdown: Kali Uchis is a rebel with a cause—to make music that feels honest and unique. She’s done that with five studio albums, including her latest release, Sincerely,. The genre-bending artist will be taking her new album on the road with a 24-stop arena tour in September and October 2025.
So much of pop music sounds the same. Basic themes, simple vocals, boring beats—the kind of music you’d forget if it wasn’t on the radio 24/7. But there are some artists who shatter conventions and break all the rules to make you feel something. Kali Uchis is one of them.
Uchis has consistently delivered singles, albums, artwork, and visuals unlike anything her peers are doing. She’s honest, vulnerable, and self-assured in both Spanish and English, blending jazz, R&B, salsa, and other Latin genres into her own unique style.
Kali Uchis’ new album stays true to her sound but lets us see the artist like we never have before. Let’s talk about the inspirations behind Uchis’ latest work and her upcoming arena tour.
Kali Uchis’ new album, Sincerely, is a sonic love letter.
2024 was a transformational year for Uchis. Just months after giving birth to her son (with rapper Don Toliver), the “telepatía” singer lost her mother to lung cancer. Those milestones—the immeasurable joy of bearing new life and the unimaginable pain of losing a parent—became the foundation for Sincerely,.
Released on May 9, Sincerely,—comma included to denote the way you’d close out a letter—began as a series of love letters to the people Uchis loved. The songs speak to Uchis herself, her friends, and her loved ones, making for an incredibly vulnerable body of work.
Sincerely, explores themes of love and loss wrapped in Uchis’ whispery vocals.
Uchis’ fifth studio album took on new meaning for her when her mother passed. The artist decided to dedicate Sincerely, to her mom, and throughout the album’s 14 tracks, Uchis lets listeners into the tenderest parts of her life without abandoning her privacy.
The penultimate song, “Sunshine and Rain…” opens with a voice note from Uchis’ mother saying “Good morning, sunshine” to her grandson. The track that closes out the album, “ILYSMIH” was written when Uchis was in the hospital bed with her newborn and includes clips of him cooing.
Uchis has always been open about her commitment to making music for herself first. But Sincerely, did that on a different level, becoming the body of work she needed as she navigated losing her mother. She told AP, “I really did make the music that I needed for my grieving process, for just the place that I’m at in my life right now.”
Kali Uchis’ new album is the much anticipated follow-up to her last English language project.
Uchis has become well-known for making music in both English and Spanish. Of her five studio albums, two—Orquídeas (2024) and Sin Miedo (2020)—were fully in Spanish, a nod to her Colombian roots. Sincerely, is her third English album, and follows Red Moon in Venus (2023), which gave us the RIAA-certified platinum track, “I Wish You Roses.”
Uchis acknowledges that her bilingual music isn’t the easiest way to thrive in either the English or Spanish markets. But she’s not afraid of taking the hard route. She has always been willing to rebel for the sake of her music. As a teenager, before her meteoric rise to success, she was kicked out of her parents’ home for skipping school to make music and experimental short films.
Uchis continues to redefine the rules of music and make room for other bicultural artists.
The Grammy-winning singer hopes that her unconventional path will inspire other artists to make music on their own terms. In an interview with Variety, she declared, “I love to be able to inspire other artists who are also bicultural to express themselves freely without feeling the need to over-explain themselves.”
Uchis is also leaving a blueprint for artists to take control of their creative process. The singer has always been heavily involved in the production of her own music, even directing her own visuals. But with Sincerely, she wrote and executive produced the entire album, allowing her to completely shape the feel and sound of the project.
Uchis is taking Sincerely, and her signature stage presence on a 2025 arena tour.
Uchis is no stranger to performing, having taken the stage at Coachella three years in a row, headlined her own tours, and performed alongside artists like Tyler, the Creator and Lana Del Rey. She’s proven that she knows how to deliver a sultry vocal, turn a stunning look, and command a crowd, and we expect no less when Sincerely, hits arenas across the US and Canada.
Sincerely, has earned glowing reviews from fans and critics alike, so Uchis will likely have no trouble filling up venues on the tour’s 24 stops. Tour dates begin on August 14th in Portland and end in Denver on September 25th. Uchis will be accompanied by Thee Sacred Souls, an 11-piece soul band.
