One of the biggest celebrity dramas of 2023 was the rumored feud between Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez. Ever since 2018, some of Selena’s fans began accusing Hailey of “stealing” Justin from their favorite artist. They came up with all kinds of “evidence” (more like speculations) of the two throwing jabs at one another on social media.
Even though both Selena and Hailey have strongly denied all rumors, fans continued to stroke the flames. And in early 2023, the so-called “feud” reached its peak when even other celebrities got caught in the crossfire. One of these celebs was Justine Skye, one of Hailey Bieber’s best friends.
Justine Skye Reportedly Shaded Selena Gomez in 2022.
Before the more recent drama, Justine Skye received backlash from Selena's supporters in 2022 due to a controversial Snapchat story she posted.
The story read, “Making TikToks every day like you haven’t got a s—ty makeup brand to run? Hmmm… Just whack as hell.” The story was seemingly directed towards Selena, who was getting more active on TikTok, while also running her makeup brand, Rare Beauty. However, Justine strongly denied that she wrote that, saying that she was hacked.
She tweeted, “idk why anyone could think that after not posting on Snapchat for years I would go on Snapchat to say THAT. Obviously, I was hacked.”
This received mixed reactions. Some agreed that it was unlikely the R&B star would post something like that, but others questioned why someone would hack an “unknown” singer like Justine in the first place.
Justine Skye Appears in a TikTok With Hailey and Kendall Jenner — Was It Aimed at Selena Gomez?
In January 2023, Hailey posted a video on TikTok with both Justine and Kendall Jenner where they mouthed the words “I’m not saying she deserved it, but God’s timing is always right.” Selena fans were quick to speculate that this had something to do with the former Disney Channel star.
Hailey eventually took down the video and explained that they were just joining a fun trend, but some fans were not having it. Selena’s fans began sending threatening tweets and texts to all three girls on the video.
People also used Justine’s “hacked” story from last year as evidence that the three were indeed taking jabs at Selena. Justine denied these again and went on to tweet some of the texts she had been getting but later took down the post.
Selena Gomez and Justine Skye Both Asks Fans to Stop the Hate
Just as things began to cool off, another controversy appeared. After Selena admitted that she once over-laminated her eyebrows, Kylie Jenner posted a picture with the text “This was an accident???" over her brows, followed by a picture of Hailey Bieber’s eyebrows.
Again, Kylie denied the photo was in reference to Selena — but the damage was done. Shortly after, Selena asked her fans to stop trolling Hailey and her famous friends, writing, “Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. (...) I've always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
In response to this, Justine also tweeted at fans, writing, “What a world we live in, eh?” which once again sparked intense backlash and accused her of being shady. She responded with a longer tweet, which read, “I wasn't being shady... I was being honest. It is a crazy world we live in where nothing is enough for you all. you guys have ASSUMED ENOUGH… What the hell do you want I happen next. For us to kill ourselves!? No one says anything because there is no winning with you… But the fact of the matter is you're all so wrong. Wrong for instigating and perpetuating this horrible narrative…”
Since then, the drama has seemed to die down, but time will only tell if this will spring up once again.
