Justine Skye is one of those artists who, aside from producing some of the most creative songs, also gets creative in terms of fashion. No one can predict what she’s going to wear next, and it's something that gets fans of the R&B star excited.

Justine mixes a lot of elements in her fashion, just like she does with her music. Sometimes she’s seen in streetwear, while at other times she wears some of the most fashionable dresses. And like her music, this unconventional way of doing things brings both adoring fans and critics.

However, in an interview with People Magazine, Justine revealed some of the thoughts that go into her fashion choices.

Black for New York

Justine was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York — and a lot of New Yorkers prefer to wear black clothing. Some people speculate that New Yorkers love black clothing because it’s a power move since black clothing represents power and elegance. It’s for these same reasons that Justine tends to lean towards black clothing, especially during the early days of her career.

"The whole like idea of being from New York is it's easy to get ready to go, wearing black and not worrying about getting anything on it," she told the outlet.

New Colors and Styles

Justine has always loved fashion. And as her career began to advance, so did her experiments when it came to clothing. Around 2014, Justine also became very close friends with Kendall Jenner and Hailey Biber. Rubbing shoulders with these two fashionistas had a big impact on Justine’s style as well.

In 2019, Justine collaborated with Nyden, a label under H&M. Justine worked with Nyden’s team to create sets that were both creative and wearable. Some of the pieces she helped create were oversized denim jackets, sweaters with fun catchphrases, dresses with prints of animals, and many more.

In 2020, she was picked up by H&M, and she helped create a capsule for them. Once again, she showcased her New York and Jamaican roots in this collection. Justine was slowly but surely becoming an icon in the fashion world.

The Color White

Despite making a name for herself in the world of fashion, there was always one color that Justine shied away from — white. As someone who began her career mostly wearing black, several fans started to notice that even after making changes in her fashion and incorporating all kinds of colors, Justine was very seldom seen in white. The reason? Because white is hard to take care of.

"I'm still a little bit nervous to wear white," she explained to People. "I feel like I'm a little bit clumsy, so I feel like people who wear all-white outfits have to be very mature — that's not me! One little mark on it and then the whole thing is ruined." Fans loved this, of course, since it made her super relatable.
