Girls Unite for The First Essence GU Summit In Atlanta

This past weekend, on November 5, ESSENCE Girls United, the premier destination for professional young Black women, hosted its third annual summit at the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center in Atlanta, GA. The theme of this year’s summit was “Forever the Blueprint” — a celebration of Black girls and gender-expansive youth who continue to be the blueprint for progression, tenacity, and resilience. The Girls United Summit is brought to you by major sponsor The Coca-Cola Company®, along with supporting sponsors, SheaMoisture, Ford and American Airlines.

Reginae Carter hosted the summit with panelists and special guest throughout the day leading discussion covering the crucial topics on most Gen-Z and millennials’ minds. Special workshops included traditional and trendy setups from panels and social media tutorials to speed mentoring, a fun play on speed dating for women on the entrepreneurial rise.

Attendees enjoyed a musical performance by Rubi Rose, a gaming station hosted by Cxmmunity and teen girl gamer Queen Khamyra, The Coca-Cola Company® 's mocktail bar, and food provided by Slutty Vegan, Soul Truckin Good, and Cereal & Cream.

The GU 2022 Summit nailed uniting influencers for cameos including Dess Dior, Jayda Cheaves, CoCo Jones, and DJ Ohso in addition to ESSENCE & ESSENCE GU executives, Nandi Howard, Rhyann Sampson, Erika Bennett, D'Shonda Brown and ESSENCE GU co-founder Rechelle Dennis.

Additional activities for attendees included tooth gems, nail art by Lyra Luxe Nails , and fresh cuts by TiffsTheBarber. The speed mentoring sessions with professionals from a variety of industries sparked inspiration for many of the attendees. The GU Just For You Marketplace also included Brooklyn Tea, Stay Positive Inc, LaBlu Serenity, Lilac Reign, The Tsuri Company, Humans Before Handles, Full Bloom By Lauren.

In the closing evening, ESSENCE Girls United hosted an invite-only dinner sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company® and supporting sponsor Ford. Hosted by Coco Jones, the dinner honored women who have continued to be the blueprint in the culture excelling in their fields of education, activism, entertainment, content creation and entrepreneurship.
