What do you think about when you hear Grenada? Maybe visions of a tropical paradise come to mind, or, maybe you’ve never heard of the country before. Whatever the case, Grenada is starting to make its way to the fashion world spotlight thanks to the work of Fe Noel.
Caribbean pride is starting to trickle its way into mainstream fashion thanks to her work. In 2023, Fe Noel’s work is even starting to appear in large chains like Target. But who is Fe Noel? What exactly is her style? And why should we be excited about the brand’s rise?
Who is Fe Noel?
Felisha Noel was born in America to Grenadian parents. Like a lot of families from Grenada, Felisha’s family was very closely knit. Felisha herself was incredibly close to both her mother and grandmother, drawing a lot of inspiration from them.
Despite growing up in New York, she clung to her Caribbean roots and constantly visited her home country throughout her life. This greatly influenced her style when she began getting into the fashion world.
Starting Fe Noel From The Roots
“I learned the concept that you can create the life that you want to live. It will take a lot of work, it may be painful, and it is a long road. But you can absolutely create something from nothing, you absolutely can.” Felisha told CFDA.
Felisha didn’t grow up with a boatload of cash. She didn’t have a large inheritance to play around with. Instead, she grew up with limited resources, which forced her to make the most out of what she had: her Grenadian heritage.
“I have to remind myself, ‘Fe, use what you have or you can use what you have to take you to the next step.’” “It is so hard because when you have a small brand; you are always thinking about resources. You are always like, I have to be creative because I do not have the financial resources that I need.”
But in 2011, she launched Fe Noel with a very unique message.
Eat Well, Travel Often, and Dress to Inspire
“Eat Well, Travel Often, and Dress to Inspire” are the words that the Fe Noel brand goes by. For Felisha, dressing well is all about feeling good about yourself. Because when you feel good, you feel empowered and worthy, and this, in turn, affects not only you but everyone around you as well.
“I make robes and other flowy pieces because I want women to feel good. I want to make them feel powerful. I want it to make them feel worthy. And I think so many women are either sacrificing or not feeling good enough or not feeling appreciated.” Felisha told CFDA.
Today, Fe Noel’s pieces are available in countless stores all across the country. It mixes contemporary style with cultural pieces from Grenada and the Caribbean as well. And even though it’s already gone big, Felisha continues to work behind the scenes to make even more women feel great about themselves.
