Father-Daughter Drama: Coi Leray and Benzino's Public Feud Explained

Benzino (real name: Raymond Leon Scott) is an established force in the hip-hop industry as one of the founders of Source Magazine, as well as his appearance in the reality series, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. While he is well-known as a businessman and music mogul, it was only recently that he made headlines for being a father due to his very public feud with his daughter and up-and-coming rapper Coi Leray.

Coi Leray is a rapper and singer who brings her lyrics to life and she’s not afraid to speak her mind regarding her upbringing and the hardships she has endured. Over the past few years, Benzino and Coi Leray have had public spats but nothing like the most recent when Coi appeared on the Angie Martnizez Podcast where she spoke of her relationship with Benzino and how she felt he was jealous of her success.

“At first it was rocky, because I felt like he couldn’t handle my success,” Coi told Angie on the show. “I felt like it did come from an envious place, which is okay, cause he’s human, and it’s fine. He’s one of those people that feels like, ‘Yo, I still have a story to tell.'” Ouch.

It wasn’t long before Benzino responded to his daughter’s interview, writing a lengthy Instagram caption directed at Coi. “This has to be the most ridiculous [poop emoji] I’ve heard in my entire life on this earth,” he wrote. “How tf can [I] be envious towards someone I RAISED, NUTURED, PROVIDED FOR, INFLUENCED, AND LOVE VERY DEARLY??? This industry and the internet have completely messed up the minds of this young generation. I’m tired of her pushing a false narrative about who I am and what I’ve done as a father.”

Previously, he has also denied Coi’s claims that she sold drugs and slept in cars.

Though everyone has their side of the story, looking at the years of hurt, pain, anger, and even abandonment issues between Coi Leray and Benzino, we have to ask, is it fixable? Are father and daughter ever going to be willing to come to terms with one another? Coi shared an update with fans following the interview and revealed that Benzino has no plans to talk to his daughter ever again. However, she did extend an olive branch to her dad and pushed for them to keep the drama off the internet moving forward.

“Respectfully, I just wish that we could kind of keep everything offline moving forward. If you have anything to say, you can call Grandpa Tito, you can call my mom. Just how you called me last week asking for what you ask for, you could’ve just hit me direct,” she said on IG Live. “I rather you just do that on a respectful level of just me being your daughter at the end of the day. We don’t gotta have a relationship, but I’m still your kid. It is what it is, so just respect the fact that what you’re doing is not cool.”

Hopefully, in the future, we will see this father and daughter come together and heal the unspoken wounds, love, forgive, and work together to create something inspiring to listen to. Until then may the duo be healed and close again.
