Political and pop culture royalty intertwined on July 28th when former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama made an appearance at Beyonce and Jay-Z’s On the Run 2 tour.
The political power couple was seen dancing from their box seats to Jay-Z’s “N–as In Paris” from his 2011 collab album, Watch the Throne, as well as Apes–t, which is featured on the Carters’ joint album, Everything Is Love. This is not the first time the Obamas have been at the Carters’ concert. Earlier this month while the tour was in Paris, Michelle took her youngest daughter, Sasha, to see the concert. They were joined by Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson.
Fans who attended the concert were stoked. They took to Twitter to express their excitement at being in the same room with four legends.
One girl even celebrated her birthday at this concert. Needless to say that she was pleasantly surprised when she turned around to see the Obamas living their best lives.
The Obamas have a long-standing relationship with the Carters. Beyonce performed at Obama’s inauguration in 2008 as well as at Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday party. Beyonce was also an avid supporter of the former first lady’s campaign, “Get Moving,” which discouraged the sedentary lifestyle that children tend to adopt. Beyonce’s song, “Get Me Bodied,” was renamed “Move Your Body” to encourage young children to get outside and play.
