Mixing Business with Pleasure

One piece of advice that I received during my interning days that has always stuck with me is, “Never mix business and pleasure.” This was told to me by Erin Hawker, the founder of Agentry PR, after one of the employees broke up with her boyfriend, who happened to be a client of Agentry PR. Subsequently, the company ended up losing the client. In situations like this, I completely understand why you wouldn’t want to get romantically involved with a person in the same business as you, however, this seems like a worst case scenario!
Dating someone in the same career as you, can be tricky, but I want to look on the bright side of things. Being in the same field allows you to have common interest with someone, and could help end the awkward beginning stages of getting to know someone. Also, being in the same industry with your bae allows the two of you to reach new heights together, and eventually be a power couple; think Beyonce and Jay Z.
To be completely transparent, I’m considering getting involved with someone in the same industry as me, but I’m hesitant because I am aware of all of the harsh repercussions that could happen if things go south! In all honesty, I probably shouldn’t be getting involved with this person for reasons out of the industry situation, but what’s the point of being in my early 20s if I’m not going to make easily avoidable mistakes LOL!
