Leela James & The Truth Release “Are You Ready” EP

Leela James & The Truth Band just released their 5 song EP “Are You Ready” on Entertainment One (eOne). The EP is appropriately titled because their first single, “That Woman,” delivers a modern day rock ‘n roll performance that even our grandparents would be proud to hear, and we’re so ready for it.
We’re the kids in this scenario, we’re ready for it and we absolutely love it.
Leela James belts with an angry power in her voice that all fans of rock look forward to in a performance. Don’t lie to yourselves. You know you love that shit.

“That Woman” was first debuted at the inaugural Black Girls Rock! Festival held at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on March 10.
She was joined by guitarist Jairus “JMO” Mozee (who has worked with Prince, Mary J Blige, D’Angelo, Anderson Paak, and Kendrick Lamar), bassist Eric Ingram (who has worked with Lil’ Wayne and is currently touring with Ariana Grande), and drummer David “Dae-Dae” Haddon (currently tours with Gwen Stefani).
So far, Leela herself has:
- released six critically acclaimed R&B albums
- hit #1 on Billboard‘s ‘Top 10 Hip-Hop‘ (“Don’t Want You Back” smash hit {garnered over 6.7 million views})
- was recognized as “R&B Artists to Watch” (“Don’t Want You Back”)
- Performed at various festivals including Bonnaroo, Essence Festival, Capitol Jazz Fest
- Opened for the 2018 televised Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
- Received a Soul Train Award for “Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist“
- Been nominated for a NAACP Image Award for “Best New Artist“
Leela expressed the ease with which this EP was created, “We pretty much recorded the project over the course of two weeks and it was effortless because the music just flowed naturally.”
