“BLACKPINK in your area!”
For anyone unfamiliar with BLACKPINK, they have taken the KPop world by storm since their debut with Boombayah in August of 2016.
This afternoon they made their comeback with ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’
With KPop reaching new heights of popularity in North America, BLACKPINK is an essential for your radar.
DDU-DU DDU-DU is currently at over 16M views and counting within the few hours that it was released (granted, I may or may not make up half of those views).
The all girl group consists of 4 members: Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie and Rose.
Jennie explained the meaning of ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ saying, “You can interpret ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ as either the sound of a gunshot, or the sense that we’re casting a powerful spell.”
BLACKPINK was formed by South Korean Entertainment group, YG Entertainment, which has formed other popular KPop groups such as BIGBANG, WINNER and iKon.
Before today’s debut of ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, BLACKPINK only had 5 songs out, each with over 100M views.
But BLACKPINK debuted more than their latest hit today, they also debuted each member’s official Instagrams where they all shared the same picture (a behind the scenes look at ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU‘):

Rose – @roses_are_rosie
Jisoo – @sooyaa_
Jennie – @jennierubyjane
One of the major symbolic moments of the new video, which already has fans in Korea talking, is a scene where a painting of Jisoo is being photographed while she walks in between the crowd in a pink wig.
We get a close-up of her platform shoes that she trips and falls over.
Upon getting up, the crowd is wearing masks and they are all pointing their phones at her reminiscent of the way guns are held.
Between the music video, the new albums and the official Instagram accounts, BLACKPINK is making major waves for the KPop world.
Check them out on their official website.
