As if co-hosting The View and debuting a new single wasn’t a good enough start to 2018, Keke Palmer is dropping yet another single called Bossy. The edgy and self-affirming lyrics are nothing new for the outspoken starlet, but fans can expect much more of this as Palmer prepares to release her second studio album.
It’s hard to believe this will be Palmer’s first album in 11 years! But she has come a long way from her 13-year-old vocals and her 2004 show biz introduction in Barbershop 2. Today, the 24 year old has played everything from TLC’s Chilli to Jacquees’ girlfriend and Cinderella on Broadway.
Last month, Palmer teased her fans on social media about new music and gifted them with her song and music video for “Pre Game.” The video premiered on Paper Magazine. While “Pre-Game” has more of a seductive, slow-tempo sound, “Bossy” is anything but.
“Bossy”‘s hard beat coupled with her self-empowering lyrics speak to Palmer’s present attitude. “‘Bossy’ in so many ways is a musical expression of the state of mind I’ve developed through my artistic growth,” she said. And there’s definitely more where that came from.
The good news is fans don’t have to wait for tour dates or the album release to hear Palmer sing. As the recurring hothead singer, Gigi, on Fox’s Star, Palmer gets to debut her music on the show as well.
When she isn’t acting, dancing or singing, Palmer takes on the role of philanthropist with Saving our Daughters, a youth female empowerment program which exposes young women to the arts. She is uplifting women through her lyrics, performance and personal time.
“Right now I’m in a super empowering place musically. After working so long with different record companies, I’ve decided to do things independently and create my own label. Not just for myself, but hopefully for other young artists that are looking to feel change of their own musical careers while having and receiving the support/nurturing environment they need to grow,” she said.
