Instagram Vs. Reality.

In the past few years, Instagram has become one of the biggest social media apps of all time. Almost every person I know uses it to edit photos, upload and share their lives through images to the world, including myself. But how can we differentiate between Instalife and Real life? During my hourly scroll on Instagram, I’m lead to believe that every single person I follow has their life together, and is still able to look insanely good in photos. Sometimes it’s difficult to believe that these are just normal people and what they show on Instagram is probably a very tiny part of their day. But are we all living in a reality where Instagram is the new real life?

This is a difficult one because, for some people, namely influencers, Instagram and social media is their life, it’s how they make a living. They document most parts of their day on the app by uploading stories or new posts and they try to connect with their followings. I’m not an influencer but even I feel the pressure to get a certain amount of likes when I upload an Instagram and if it doesn’t reach that many I often wonder what was wrong with the photo, did I look bad? Was it not edited enough? And then I have to question myself as to why I even care! I don’t need people to approve of what I upload but this is what the Instagram world has to lead to.

It’s really difficult to not get caught up in the social media world, I wake up every morning and check my phone and then do so continuously throughout the day, and mostly it’s the same thing but yet I still need to check. But some days I need to make myself take a step back and remember that everything you see on social media isn’t necessarily what’s real. People show what they want you to see. Most of the time they refrain from posting the issues going on in their life or if they’re having a bad skin day, and yet we only compare ourselves to the perfect lives they show. This is why it’s so important to take a step back from social media every now and again and just be happy in your own skin, you don’t need to compare your lives to others on Instagram, there’s far more to life than that.

It’s not just a magazine. It’s a lifestyle!
