In the following months since Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assualt allegations, more and more men have been accused of the act. At this point, the links between powerful industry men and harassment comes as no surprise. But, this year’s Billboard Women in Music showed us that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Like always, the annual event brought together inspiring women within the music industry from established icons to breakthrough artists. This year’s honorees included Mary J. Blige (Icon Award), Camilla Cabello (Breakthrough Artist Award), Kelly Clarkson (Powerhouse Award), Kehlani (Rule Breaker Award), Solange (Imapct Award), Grace Vanderwaal (Rising Star Award), Atlantic Records COO Julie Greenwald (Excutive of the Year), and Billboard “Woman of the Year” Selena Gomez. Each accepted their awards with speeches that encompassed empowerment and emphasized the importance of women supporting women during a time like now.
Through their platforms , these women have paved a path to strength and unity that will allow young girls and women to believe in themselves and their voices.
