Diafora: The Futuristic Luxury Line Creating A Difference

Streetwear has long been the inspiration for designers and consumers alike and since we’re writing this from New York (so you know, we know what we’re talking about), let’s put you onto Diafora. It’s been a minute since we’ve come across a clothing line that made us go “hmm!” (the universal reaction of approval) and this line has garnered that reaction.
With the help of videographer Rick Nyce, Diafora is brought to life in their most recent video campaign:
Designer and owner of Diafora, Malika Mercado, was inspired by Greece which is evident in the name itself which translates to “different” in Greek.
The revelation of Diafora comes after 8 months of rebranding and working on the line while keeping inspiration from Greece and its history intact with each design, name, and choice of fabric.

Mercado says, “I recently traveled out of the country to personally pick out each fabric while also being hands-on with making sure
each design and idea was properly brought to life”
This proves her dedication to the brand as traveling outside of the country to pick out fabrics encompasses passion, commitment and dedication in its full form.
The Philly designer who was interviewed by Kalil of Blackaphillyated gave advice to women, particularly women looking to be entrepreneurs,
-“What I’mma say is, if starting your own business is something you really have a passion for, make sure you give 100%. That really is something that has to be instilled in you, that hustle, because that takes a looot of work. […] You gotta really, really, really want this. So if you do it, you gotta give 110% and be 100% sure this is what you want to do.”

To further bring about the quality of Mercado’s work, Kalil inquired about the production process and whether she cuts-and-sews the pieces herself.
Mercado replied “I do, I have a manufacturer, everything I have here (at the store) is handmade.”
Equally impressed and astounded, Kalil responds, “Wow, I didn’t think it was that personal with everything being handmade. I thought you designed it and sent it to the press shop?” to which Mercado laughed and exclaimed, “Oh no!”
Diafora was first established in 2014 as a men’s t-shirt line for two years before contributing to the high demands of women. The line’s high-quality pieces and handmade work creates a very specific market of sporty-chic luxury.
Its mission:
-To provide exclusive wear for all and allow customers to express their uniqueness and individuality through comfortable limited-edition pieces which suit any style, setting, or occasion.
