It isn’t easy to raise children, but when it comes to children with special needs there are more challenges to take into consideration.
Some of these challenges include, but aren’t limited to:
-The environment the child is around is always taken into consideration on a much higher level, the education they receive, the length of time with which they should remain at a certain education level, medical treatments (if any), how and when they socialize with other kids.

Denise Richards recently opened up to People magazine that her youngest daughter, Eloise, has special needs. These are the stories necessary for others to engage in and create discourse for as people who grow up with disabilities still risk the disadvantages of not being included by their peers.
Richards adopted Eloise domestically, and has 2 other daughters that she shares with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
In the interview, Richards states:
-“She can only say a handful of words, and there are times when she feels like her age in understanding, and then other times where it feels she’s emotionally 3 years old. It’s been challenging. I’m learning every day because they don’t really have a road map for her particular case.”

She shares that Eloise, now 7 years old, was diagnosed with a deletion in chromosome 8 two and a half years ago.
The National Center for Education Statistics reported:
-“(Last Updated: April 2018) In 2015–16, the number of students ages 3–21 receiving special education services was 6.7 million, or 13 percent of all public school students. Among students receiving special education services, 34 percent had specific learning disabilities.”

As Denise Richards continues learning about the best courses of care for her daughter, we take this moment to think about those who may have a difficult time getting access to proper care. We commend those parents, and hope that more conversations like this one help people understand those within our communities who are struggling with a disability.
