Create{Her Collective is a digital publication intended to celebrate the successes of multicultural women, specifically black women. Founder Erica Vain’s aim is to put creatives of color front and center in order to gain the same praise and recognition of their non-black counterparts to provide inspiration for those working towards their creative goals. on her website, “Create Her Collective is here to help inspire and move a group of talented, beautiful and boundless creators forward.”
Recently, Create{Her Collective meet with actress, dancer, and singer Gabrielle Dennis, who recently has been casted in The Bobby Brown Story. Dennis, like the other creatives who find themselves with Create{Her Collective team, truly enjoyed the experience of being praised for her hard work. “When I walked in the door I was like GIRL POWER! The women, their energy, their craft, their skill level, everyone was on point,” commented the actress, “It was a couple of times I was laughing because I’m thinking, ‘I’ve never been photographed like this before. I’ve never been seen like this.’ I am pretty excited!”
Dennis also spoke about her career ups and downs, and her recent pivotal role as Whitney Houston in the TV program The Bobby Brown Story, which aired on BET in September. For her, telling the tragic story of Houston was both difficult, and rewarding. “A lot of times we sometimes forget that these larger than life celebrities or stars, or however you look at them, they are human beings at the end of the day,” Dennis explains, “So I think what helps with these movies is that it helps to humanize these people, and bring them to a level of understanding that they go to the same heartache and pain and drama, and heartbreak and ups and downs in life the way everybody else does.”
