Last night Cardi B took home the award for Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammys, making her the first ever female solo artist to win this award. Since the category began in 1996 it has mainly been male artists who have won, with the only exception in 1997 when the hip hop group The Fugees, which included Lauryn Hill, won for their album The Score, according to Time.
Not only did Cardi B make history within the rap world but she also claimed a victory for herself as this is her first ever Grammy. Her album, Invasion of Privacy, has been hugely successful worldwide. During her acceptance speech Cardi B thanked the collaborators on the album along with her daughter Kulture, who was born last July.
“When I found out, my album was not complete … we have to get this album done so I could shoot these videos while I’m still not showing,” she said. “It was very long nights.”
