Burberry presented its Spring/Summer 2020 runway show at London Fashion Week today and it saw one-year creative director Riccardo Tisci bring a modern and imaginative edge to the heritage British brand. The Independent wrote, “Gone were the punk and Hip Hop references and in came a dominance of Italian glamour.“ The delicately tailored silhouettes of Britain’s most iconic fashion house are adorned by smart outerwear, coveted accessories, and versatile footwear.
The venue chosen for the presentation is the Trubadour Theatre in White City, featuring models such as a near-unrecognizable Kendall Jenner with freshly dyed blonde hair, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Irina Shayk, and even Agyness Deyn who returned from modeling in 2012. Tisci’s brand new line up offered something for everyone, aesthetics ranging from traditionalist, to red-carpet glam, to avant-garde. The pieces were put into separate stories: the classic, feminine, heritage Burberry, as well as tailoring, evening wear, and streetwear.
Key accessories include the “TB” monogram bum bags and hats along with oversized visors to add to the collection’s creativity. We also see Burberry’s signature tan trench coat and their classic gingham check. The color palette was mainly neutral tones with bits of color subtly lighting up your springtime. Later in the collection, however, the styles became visibly more luxurious, taking on a whole other theme that is classy and filled with evening wear separates and crystal embellished gowns.
This SS20 collection marks Riccardo Tisci’s first year at Burberry, and it really did stand apart – fulfilling our expectations that the creative director would renew the brand with his rich experience at haute couture. The show’s title “Evolution” suggested that this is just the beginning. See for yourself and watch the runway show here.
