If you’ve ever suffered FOMO of the 90s, we have some news that might aid as a cure. Baby Phat is back and phatter than ever! We’ve all been waiting for this glorious day since Kimora Lee Simmons announced the relaunch of her famous 90s streetwear brand Baby Phat last year, and now, finally, it’s here! According to refinery29.com, the full collection isn’t set to be released until September, however, the Baby Phat X Forever 21 collaboration is a sample of what’s to come this fall. The collab features pieces all priced under $25, minus accessories this time around. The line first launched in 1999 as the woman’s line to Phat Farm; a clothing line created by then-husband Russell Simmons. Back then, it included everything from accessories, shoes, and of course clothing. However, because of the nature of the designs, the brand wasn’t accepted by mainstream fashion. In an interview with Refinery29 back in 2018, Kimora expressed:
-“Now, everybody’s doing retro with a little high-waisted jean and tube top, or the sneaker and the jean — that’s the Baby Phat girl. That’s popular [again], and we were one of the first ones to do it, one of the biggest ones to do it, and one of the greatest ones.”

She does credit, however, lines that came before her and brought streetwear to the forefront. She goes on to tell Refinery29, exclusively, how happy she is that her daughters Aoki Lee, 16, and Ming Lee, 19, are very involved this time around:
-“Now that Ming Lee and Aoki Lee are grown and working on the brand they grew up with, it means so much to me to introduce Baby Phat to a whole new generation who didn’t get a chance to experience our first go around. We’re mixing aspiration and accessibility, and continuing to support women, and especially women of color. Baby Phat defined what a feminine, lifestyle brand could be, and this partnership with Forever 21 allows us to share that journey through reinvention with a whole new audience.”
