Baby Goth rose to prominence on Instagram after her covers, and unique look landed her on IG‘s “Explore” page. She describes her sound as, “alternative, but still kind of pop. Which has evolved into a hip-hop influence.”

This is exactly how her new video, off of her debut EP Baby Goth,  “Sugar” exhibits her sound and look. She told Republic Records that she watches “a lot of Disney movies and horror films,” which often shows in her music videos.

Her voice is relatively high pitched, and almost mimics that of, well, a baby. This works well for “Sugar” as she sings:

Blockquote open

“Got sugar in my bloodstream
I’m drippy with the icing
They say I’m sweet like ice cream
But I’ll rip your heart out, smiling”

- Blockquote close

“Got sugar in my bloodstream
I’m drippy with the icing
They say I’m sweet like ice cream
But I’ll rip your heart out, smiling”

The cute, poppy sound works as she sings about sweets, but then the drop in her horror film influence comes as she sings “I’ll rip your heart out, smiling.”

The music video’s prominent colors are a muted hot pink, and….insane asylum white. At certain points in the video, she sings while tied up in a straight jacket.

Wiz Khalifa pops up with the hip-hop influence. In the video he raps from what could be an ambulance, or an ice cream truck.

The song is fun, and catchy. The music video is like clubbing in an insane asylum full of hot pink neon lights and lots and lots of “Sugar.”
