One of the most fire streetwear brands rising from Tokyo, AMBUSH has just unveiled its full lookbook for Spring/Summer 2020, and it’s exactly what we expected, but better: bold, futuristic, and fashion-forward. The new silhouettes range from draped dresses to structured blazers with an emphasis on layering and fine tailoring.
Defying gender norms has always been a staple practice for AMBUSH, and this Spring/Summer drop is no different. The clothes balance delicately between masculine and feminine, resulting in an appealingly unisex and eclectic feel. Aside from the apparel, the new ultra-colourful sky-high sandals are heavily featured in this lookbook, taking the futuristic vibe up a notch.
Only about a decade ago, Korean-American jewelry designer Yoon Ahn and her husband Verbal, a Japanese rapper, cofounded AMBUSH. The brand’s name came from Yoon‘s desire and mentality to “take people by surprise.” In the East Asian region, AMBUSH was first known for making experimental fine jewelry such as safety pin bracelets, padlock necklaces, and crystal earrings.
As time went by and AMBUSH began getting more international recognition, its unique aesthetic spread out as ready-to-wear pieces too. Today, the ice-cold AMBUSH aesthetic is popular among top-tier fashionistas from the East to the West, with celeb endorsers including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, MIA, and Pharrell Williams. They have collaborated with Kanye West for a jewelry collection; and of course, A$AP Rocky is a fan too, who even brought Yoon Ahn in for one of his music videos, L$D (Love, Sex, Dreams).
But surely, Yoon Ahn herself has achieved more than a cameo in a music video. A year ago, she was handpicked by Kim Jones to be the new Dior Homme jewelry designer. The men’s jewelry line has been revived since her involvement and many pieces run out very quickly.
