5 Songs That Make The Best Summer Playlist

Setting your mood for the start of the season is critical. For me, music is the best way to get inspiration, prepare for the turn up, and even mellow out for times of relaxation. What better way to welcome in the good vibes than an all-purpose, summer playlist! I picked five songs from some of my favorite artists that will make summer 2018 one to remember through the sound of music.
Kamiayah – Addicted to Ballin’ (feat. ScHoolboy Q)
If you aren’t hip to Kamaiyah already, you’ve definitely been missing out! “Addicted to Ballin’” is a great song to play first thing in the morning. I would classify it as “hood motivation,” but you can be inspired by this song regardless of your background. Any Girl Boss can relate to a ‘get-money’ anthem with a super catchy beat!
Ashanti – Happy
What’s summer without flings? Whenever I’m feeling lovey-dovey, I play this nostalgic bop from Ashanti. It takes me back to when jersey dresses and two-tone durags were the hottest trends to rock! R&B from the 2000s is probably my favorite era of that genre. This song is perfect to play when you’re thinking of that special someone in your life. Her sweet melodies are enough to soften up even the hardest of hearts, so don’t fight the feeling.
Kali Uchis – In My Dreams
I love Kali Uchis, and “In My Dreams” is my favorite song off her latest album, Isolation. When your down in the dumps, this song is sure to lift your spirits! Kali’s airy and dreamy voice gives off Malibu Beach Barbie vibes. It gives you a good feeling while listening. If you’re going on a road trip, this is the perfect theme song for you and your girls to ride to! Although it isn’t listed in the song title, “In My Dreams” also features my favorite band The Gorillaz; another reason why the sounds are AMAZING.
Daniel Caesar – Take Me Away (feat. Syd)
When I want to make an escape from the chaos in life, I listen to “Take Me Away” by Daniel Caesar. His voice is so angelic and relaxing that it instantly takes me to a place of peace and serenity. I can see myself enjoying a hot, summer day while sipping lemonade and painting my nails while this song is playing. The addition of Syd’s smooth vocals makes listening to this song even more worthwhile. Honestly, I recommend downloading the entire Freudian album. It is a true work of art.
Destiny’s Child – Jumpin’, Jumpin’
For a night on the town with the girls, a throwback Destiny’s Child joint is absolutely necessary to play before getting to your destination. “Jumpin’, Jumpin’” will forever be a classic club banger! The playful but somewhat scandalous lyrics will spark up the party girl in you when your man is getting on your nerves. Everybody knows that when this song comes on, twerking is soon to follow. If you’re ready to let go of your inhibitions and have a good time, play this song. It’s guaranteed to bring out your wild side!
