Letting Go of Insecurities

Weight, height, hair, skin…the list goes on. Insecurities, we all have them. But for how long will we let it cripple us from living our life to it’s fullest ? It’s constantly there hovering above our heads like a dark cloud making us feel helpless and alone while we see others basking in the glorious golden rays of the sun. It’s true, nobody else can quite relate to someone else’s problems therefore making us feel even more isolated. But that’s the beauty in it. We now know that the solution can only be found within and it does not rely on an outside source. So here ends the tiring journey of looking for it in some place far far away and start looking closer. In you.

1. Acknowledge it’s existence.

Living in denial is going to get us nowhere. Admit that it is in fact an insecurity and take away the power that it has over you by reducing it to just a label and not as an emotional burden. Take a good look at whatever your insecurity may be and accept it. As hard as this may sound, try to see the beauty in it. Which leads me to my next point..

2. Stop with the ‘what ifs’

Sadly, time travel isn’t a thing yet. So trying to turn back time by asking yourself  ‘what if’ you had done this instead of that is only going to do you as much good as talking to a wall. Which is nothing, it’s going to do no good whatsoever.

3. Focus on the good

Instead, every time you catch yourself doing that, direct your attention towards what you love. Doesn’t necessarily have to be physical, it could be a loved one or anything for that matter. Like puppies! That’s always a good idea. Take all that energy and just focus on it, slowly feeling a smile form on your face and let them endorphins fill you up.

4. Celebrate the small stuff

Every time you feel like you’ve accomplished something, even if it’s small, be proud of it. The aim is to celebrate the small victories so that we see the progress we’re making in life. We will begin to see our successes supersede our shortcomings and learn to focus on the bigger things in life.

5. Appreciate the beauty in others

This one is my favorite. Once we begin to appreciate the beauty that others possess this is when we begin to rid ourselves of jealousy. Jealousy is what holds most of us back because we question ‘why me’ when things feel unfair. But when we appreciate beauty, it lifts us up as an individual. Someone who is generous with their compliments is much better off than those who have heavy lips.
