Do we all remember the days when we were younger and our mothers would tell us that beauty means pain? I sure do. When she would comb our hair and accidentally tug it, and naturally “ouch!” would come out of our mouths wanting her to stop detangling our unruly hair that we probably had gum stuck in it or something. But she would just say time and time again something like, “Listen, if you want beautiful hair like Rapunzel I need to comb it, ok? Beauty means pain.” As a child I would always associate beauty with ones physical appearance. It could be anything really. We all perceive it differently as we grow. For some it could be in being content and happy with their life. That truly is beautiful if you think about it, especially since life can often be very painful. But for others it could be success and fame. And for that, we can look to Lady Gaga to vouch that it truly is painful – literally.

She has had to postpone her European tour due to the fact that she has been suffering from fibromyalgia. Never heard of it? “Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.” Doesn’t sound very pleasant if you ask me.

We often see celebrities living such glamorous lives, attending all the red carpet events and we tend to associate that with them having beauty in the palm of their hands and that things must be oh-so easy for them. But in her new raw documentary “Gaga : Five Foot Two” dropping September 22nd on Netflix, the singer bares it all and shares with the world how she has been coping with both her physical and mental health as of late.

The trailer then sheds light on an optimistic Gaga where she says “I didn’t feel good enough. And I do now. That’s the good part.” This shows us that we all have our own struggles and that even through the most painful moments, there will be beauty.
